Rename a status in a workflow

Before you begin

You must be a Jira Cloud administrator to complete these steps. Read more about Jira Cloud permissions

  1. Go to Jira settings, then select Work items and then Workflows.

  2. Find the workflow you want to edit. In the Actions column, select More […], then Edit.

    • Note: This will create a draft version of your workflow.

  3. Choose the status you want to rename and select Edit.

  4. Update the status name, and select Save.

Things to remember

  • Statuses can be used in multiple workflows. When a status is renamed, the name will be updated in every workflow (and therefore, every project) that uses it. Be mindful of this when renaming statuses, so that you don’t make unintended changes.

  • Updating a status won’t notify the teams that use it. If you rename a status, you should let your users know so they won’t get confused.
