How do single-project and cross-project releases differ?
This page refers to the advanced planning features that are only available as part of Jira Cloud Premium and Enterprise.
Plans in Jira can use two different types of releases: single-project and cross-project.
Single-project releases are the same as those found in projects outside of your plan. In order to use releases from team-managed projects in your plan, they need to be enabled first.
Plans also has cross-project releases which align multiple single-project releases in your plan to one unified date, but can’t be saved outside of your plan.
A cross-project release lets you align and track several single-project releases as one release across different work streams. Cross-project releases appear on your timeline in the same way as single-project releases.
Cross-project releases are only used for planning purposes inside your plan. They can’t be viewed or edited in projects.
