Use sequential or concurrent dependencies in your plan

This page refers to the advanced planning features that are only available as part of Jira Cloud Premium and Enterprise.

By default, dependencies in your plan use the Blocks work item link type. Administrators can change this or create a custom work item linking type. Find out how to configure your dependencies.

You can choose whether you want to work on dependent work items in order or at the same time. This is what your plan refers to as sequential or concurrent dependencies.

Sequential dependencies can’t be scheduled at the same time, while concurrent ones can. If your plan uses sequential dependencies and you schedule two dependent work items to the same sprint, your plan classifies the dependency as off-track and turns the link red.

To change between sequential and concurrent dependencies:

  1. Next to your plan’s name in the sidebar, select More actions (•••), then Plan settings.

  2. Under Dependencies, select either sequential and concurrent dependencies.

Find out how to use dependencies in your plan.
