Manage group name conflicts when syncing customer organizations

You can connect one identity provider and configure single sign-on and/or provisioning for your customers (Jira Service Management) when you subscribe to Atlassian Guard Standard.

The ability to provision Jira Service Management customers is available for people in an early access program (EAP). This feature will be available to everyone soon.

Who can do this?

When you connect an identity provider to Jira Service Management through SCIM provisioning, the users and groups in your identity provider sync to Jira Service Management as customers and customer organizations. Read more about how customer provisioning works

Group conflicts can arise when the names of groups in your identity provider match those of existing customer organizations on your site. Read more about customer organizations

During the setup of SCIM provisioning for Jira Service Management, you have the option to decide how to handle group name conflicts when customer organizations on your Jira site share names with groups in your identity provider. Additionally, this setting can be modified after provisioning has been configured.

When synchronising, we will not display warnings regarding duplicate group names between your identity provider and your site. The data that is synchronised will depend on the group conflict settings you select.

  • Group conflict settings only apply while syncing new groups from your identity provider to Jira Service Management.

  • If an existing synced IdP group is renamed and the new name conflicts with an existing customer organization, Jira Service Management will reject the IdP's rename request.

Options for syncing groups with the same name

  • Sync the group - The group and users in your customer organization match the group and users in your identity provider.

  • Don’t sync the group - The group and its users won’t change in your customer organization.
